Kingdom of Flowers · Chapter I

Azahara

The flower that chose herself again
✦ ✦ ✦

In Vaalbará, some flowers are not born with spring. Some are born after winter. Others, after a loss. And the rarest of all bloom when a heart, believing it could never open again, finds enough strength to choose itself once more.

Azahara was one of them.

They say that in the Kingdom of Flowers there was a hidden garden that did not appear to just anyone. Knowing the path was not enough, nor following the scent of orange blossom, nor waiting for the moon to light its white paths. The garden revealed itself only to those who arrived with a soul tired of loving too much, waiting too long, or staying silent for too long.

At the centre of the garden grew a closed flower. It was not large. It was not showy. Its petals remained folded in on themselves, as though protecting a light that no longer dared to come out. The other flowers bloomed easily around it, swayed by the wind, caressed by the sun, visited by golden butterflies. But not Azahara. Azahara remained closed.

For a long time, she believed opening was dangerous. That showing herself to the world meant giving it something it could break. That delicacy, when too exposed, always ended up hurt.

Until a woman came to the garden. She walked slowly, with the kind of silence known only by those who have learned not to reveal everything they carry inside. She sat beside the closed flower and placed her fingers on the earth.

She did not ask for a miracle. She did not ask to forget. She only whispered: “I want to belong to myself again.”

Then Azahara trembled. Because those words were not just any wish. They were a promise. One of those small promises that do not seek to impress the world, yet completely change the destiny of the person brave enough to speak them.

The flower understood that she did not have to open to be admired. She had to open to feel the sun again. Little by little, she unfolded her white petals. At her centre burned a golden light, soft and steadfast, as though she had saved a small dawn for the exact moment someone needed to remember that they could still bloom.

The woman smiled. And that smile was enough.

From the union of that promise, the open flower and the first light to touch her petals, Azahara was born. A jewel created for those who are choosing themselves again. For those who have endured cold seasons and still keep a living root beneath their skin. For those who understand that delicacy is not weakness, and that a flower may seem small even after surviving every winter.

They say that whoever wears Azahara remembers that being reborn does not always mean doing so with strength. Sometimes being reborn means opening a single petal. And letting the light in.
